High Tea at the Hopetoun Tea rooms

This is something you must do at least once in your life……..because we had ordered the high tea, you can book a table, always nice to not have to queue up…….but it still more than worth any wait……..we were treated like royalty as soon as we entered, it just got better….soo many tea’s to pick from…….our host advised we step outside our comfort zone, so we both ordered flavours we have not had before…..some very good advice indeed. Then along came 3 tiers of pure evil…….everything was well explained & then we just dug in…….all amazing, I think the highlight was the pistachio cheesecake……..so light & yet soo good……….like I said do it at least once !!!

Lunch at Trocadero

Now this was great right from the moment we walked through the door……..the staff are truly amazing, nothing was an issue, even when we wanted to move tables (it is always a good sign when they cope with moving tables with ease), smoked chicken breast was so tender & juicy, the stuffed zucchini flowers simply perfect……….a glass of 2010 Hentyfarm Pinot helped us along after a Hendricks & dry ginger ale……….did we have room for dessert…..well hell yes…….we decided to order 2 to share…….(little piggys), the cooked cream is a total must……..it just screams dessert in its truest form……….also ordered the chocolate pudding & milk toffee ice cream……WOW !!

The Crown Metropol

Well our expectations were rather high as all the hype about this property had it up on a pedestal. Getting there was easy, great service from the front of house guys, even check-in was quick & painless. They had quoted $50 for valet parking for 24 hours, a little steep, yes I would agree !!

We were off to lunch at Trocadero, more about that is the next review…………..thought it would be good to see if they have free internet……….ok not free at all (what is wrong with Australian properties & free internet), ok that was a bad idea…………time for a swim at their pool on level 27……….this was more like a community swimming pool, kids everywhere throwing footballs around, kicking them to each other….another bad idea………headed to the spa & steam room in the men’s change room, ah the peace & quite………a good idea at last !!!

All up, not going to be on our recommended list, oh & also they wanted to charge us $120 for 2 people to check out the rooftop bar on level 28, I don’t think so !!!

Church Street Enoteca

Have been wanting to try this place for way too long now, as soon as you enter you get that sense of calm, great space with plenty of room between the tables. The wait staff are amazing, just there when you need them, then they seem to disappear……

We really liked the fact they you were not rushed with menu’s & your decisions on wine has time to check out all your options, the waitress we had might have been Canadian, just superb……the right amount of causal banter, then off she would whisk…

We decided to share a pasta for entrée,  the OX-TAIL AGNOLOTTI WITH BURNT BUTTERwas just divine…… It has a broth that was to die for,

Main courses were rather large - Suckling Lamb  & Flavors of Duck

The big question was did we have room for dessert…..well yes of course we did……After much discussion we picked…..

GIANDUJA, BANANA, BROWN BUTTER, HONEY 17: Gianduja , Hazelnut dacquoise, caramelised banana, brown butter ice cream, to say this was good is not doing it any justice at all, it was totally freaking awesome !!!

The verdict is please do not wait as long as we did…..it deserves a visit tonight !!!

Laksa King

So who has been to Laksa King lately…….it is now a much bigger place, great service & amazing food at crazy prices…..it is a must, yes you might have to queue but again it is soo worth it……so head over the bridge & just off Flemington road & you are there……

Mamak

Went to Mamak last night…..now being in a queue for food is not something I would normally do, but WOW it was more than worth it……soo organised…….we really only waited about 15 minutes……we had Roti Pisang, fried chicken, veg curry, Murtabak & Rojak….if you have not been then get yourself in that queue tonight…..Oh & the staff were amazing !!!
